Instructions for shipping of live animals
QM Diagnostics offers a complete microbiology service, which comprises virology, bacteriology, parasitology and gross pathology. To guarantee successfull isolation and identification of pathogens for bacteriology, parasitology and gross pathology it is necessary that QM Diagnostics receives live animals. Before sending your animals it is essential to inform QM diagnostics by mail Qmdiagnostics@qm.umcn.nl or by phone +31 (0)24 361 54 33 about quarantine capacity.
Animals can be delivered, after approval of QM diagnostics, to the institute at the
shipping address from Monday to Friday, with the exception
of National Holidays, from 8:30 a.m. until 16:00 p.m. If a transport is expected to arrive after 16:00 p.m., please
call +31 (0) 24 36 15433 or +31 (0) 24 36 13500 to arrange the reception before 17:00 p.m. QM Diagnostics will provide you with stickers to place on the transport boxes. You need to indicate all essential information of the animals present in the transport boxes on the stickers. Animals must be accompanied by a transport agreement and completed submission forms (please also see the instructions for submission). QM Diagnostics is not permitted to house and handle genetic modified animals (gma's) generated using viral vectors and is obliged to conduct an registration. QM Diagnostics will therefore ask you to send a signed statement to declare that the gma's shipped to QM Diagnostics are not made using viral vectors. Transportation boxes that must be used for transportation of live animals to QM Diagnostics are standard transportation boxes used by commercial breeders of laboratory animals. Bio Services can supply transportation boxes in different sizes and models, also including separation walls. Cages must be provided with filters, enough bedding, food and moisture for two days. Transport gel can be arranged through the agency. Be sure that animals are not able to escape. Boxes must be accompanied with information about the animals, strain, number, location, institute, address, etc. Cages need windows for inspection at the border for international transport. Take care of absolute separation of animals from different colonies or rooms to prevent cross contaminations. Transportation by aircraft
